Sometimes also referred to as the personal care service industry, businesses under the umbrella of health and beauty cover a wide swath of products that help customers feel their best (health/wellness) and look their best (beauty).
 
The larger divisions of the industry are as follows:

• Barber shops
• Beauty salons
• Diet and weight reducing centers
• Health resorts and spas (including ones with lodging)
• Nail salons
• Skincare specialists
• Other personal care services (includes day spas, saunas, tanning salons, massage parlors, and more)

Note: There is a significant amount of overlap between the fitness franchise industry and the health and beauty franchise industry. Also, a number of franchises provide services in more than one area.

One of the largest advantages of owning a health and beauty franchise vs. going at it on your own is the franchisor’s knowledge of special regulations and considerations.

For example, if you want to own a franchise that operates with a medical component you will need to be aware of regulations governing these franchises. In some cases, a licensed medical professional will have to be involved with the franchise in order for it to operate. Franchisors have already navigated these areas and can pass along their knowledge to their franchisees.
